oh. my. word.
silly putty as wedding favors????

i've learned that silly putty is a cure for everything. i mean, that stiff squishy stretchable and breakable skin-colored stuff is just amazing. when i was a senior in college, my freshman friends and i would pass around the putty all during music appreciation class. it's the only thing that got us through. and when i say it's a cure for everything, i really mean just boredom. but if you really think about it, it truly is a cure for everything. take dry skin for example. it doesn't exactly make the dry skin go away, but it does make you stop thinking about how dry your skin is. voila! cured. sort of.

now if only i can get my hands on something like THIS!!!

all of my wildest dreams come true. i could smooth it out and sleep on it. hmm...silly putty mattress. i might be on to something...

oh Babar

BAH! i just found a full shot of Babar, but it's in a slideshow, so i don't know how to copy it or save it or get it here...*sigh* life is so hard...
BWAHA! here it is!!!!!

oh blessed "print screen" brilliant it is...anyway, see Babar? isn't he the best? aren't you jealous that we got to spend countless hours under him?

dude, Babar is all over the place in this slide show. he's famous! everyone loves him, but not as much as we do.

carrie would literally put her blanket out there and leave it all day. various members of our little group of friends would lie there in between classes. i always took naps. sometimes we would sneakily take pictures of people walking by. something was always going on at Babar when the weather was good.

in honor of Babar

today is officially a Babar day. shame on you if you don't know what a Babar day is. if i had a scanner, and access to the quote wall, i would be able to show you countless pictures of the handsome Babar. but alas. i do not. i did find some pictures of him, or close enough, online.

this is Babar's edge - on the left side of the screen...isn't he great? don't you just long to take a nap in his shade? yes. the answer is yes you do.

this would be the view from playing frisbee in the grass out to the right of Babar.

ah, google earth. see Babar? in the little yellow square? he's quite obviously the best tree on campus. if you look close enough, you can almost see carrie's turquoise quad blanket waiting for us...

do we really understand what it means to know God?

surprisingly everything

you know how when you go shopping for jeans and try on 8,563 pairs, and none of them fit well? but then you to a store to get socks or something small and you find the perfect pair of jeans? yeah, well, that sort of happened to me yesterday. mom and i were going to go to chickamauga to get our printer to print us one example of what the wedding invitation will look like (we got a plate made and are getting them "letter pressed") but the ink we are using didn't come in. so we decided to go "piddle around"...which basically means "waste time". things we got accomplished: all of which have been hanging over us for months:

- ordered sample flavors for the cake - mmm...anyone want to join me for a tasting party? mmmm....
- found perfect fabric and ribbon for the reception decorations - is it okay to say that fabric and coordinating ribbon is a gift from God? i mean, this fabric is PERFECT. now let's just hope they can get more...
- found the bridesmaids' shoes (that's RIGHT they're from rack room!!)
- bought my shoes (that's RIGHT they're from american eagle!!!)
- bought my earrings - cheapos that don't look it from some department store

if you are male and are reading this, you will not have the ability to comprehend the true meaning of getting all those seemingly small and insignificant things accomplished in one afternoon. if you are a female, you may be able to comprehend the stupendousness of getting all this accomplished. if you are a female who is getting married this summer, i know you know what i'm talking about!!! WOO! :)

in other news, i just found out that one of the boys that we didn't accept never got his letter...yeah. now what do i do? SHOOT!

dry skin gone crazy

anyone know a good cure for stupid-dry skin? my hands are so stinking dry that they sometimes bleed. eck.

why is it that i feel like i might be getting sick? all i want to do is lay down and go to sleep. mmm. sleep. i have that heavy feeling in my head so that it feels like it weighs about 500 pounds and that slightly sensitive feeling in my chest that makes me cold. i have my heater running right now. mmm. heater.

this post is relatively boring. i shall spice it up with a fabulous photo. this is chris' dad at thanksgiving. and he, uh...well, he went a little crazy....hah!

read this, THEN watch the clip in the post below...

And you thought those people that set up roomfuls of dominos to
knock over were amazing. There are no computer graphics or digital
tricks in the film. Everything you see really happened in real time
exactly as you see it.

The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually
very minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up
again. The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was
over, they were ready to change professions.

The film cost six million dollars and took three months to complete
including full engineering of the sequence. In addition, it's two
minutes long so every time Honda airs the film on British television,
they're shelling out enough dough to keep any one of us in clover for a

However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement in
Internet history. Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for
itself simply in "free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have you
watch this commercial!).

When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it
immediately without any hesitation - including the costs.

There are six and only six hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To
the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them
to make the film.

Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor, ramp,
and complete Honda Accord) is parts from those two cars.

The voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda
executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer
graphics have gotten.

They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for real. Oh,
and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the
windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing
their thing automatically as soon as they become wet.

watch this.

beautiful music

no, i lied. i'm not done commanding you to buy things. check out the square peg alliance. i'm not really good at writing reviews, but i will say that the people that make up the square peg alliace are all more talented than any of the mainstream music out there, and i don't mean maybe. here's what they say they are:

There is a place where some artists...

sell tons of records, get played on the radio, appear on the cover of all of the magazines, go to awards shows , leave them with something, sell out huge venues and can do nothing wrong.

This place is a round hole

Some artists are like square pegs in a round hole. They don’t quite fit. You can try to shove them in but something about their shape just won’t let it happen. At some point they decide that it is not worth changing their shape just to fit in. at some point they realize that the round hole is not the only place to be. At some point they realize that there are folks out there who don’t care about the round hole. At some point they realize that there are many other artists just like them. At some point they realize that there is strength in numbers. At some point they end up here

Square peg alliance

good stuff those square peg alliance people. andrew peterson, jill phillips, eric peters, andy gullahorn (jill phillips' husband), chris mason (whom i don't know yet...), and more people. andrew peterson is, of course, the best out of the bunch, but that's just because i'm the biggest maniac of a fan ever. but whatever.

AND!!! chris mason is giving a benefit concert for calvary chapel here in town - it's for their mission trip to the middle east this summer - and the very talented, very attractive christopher slaten will be opening for him. you can hear clips of christopher's music here. (you can also watch a little video of him and his friend nathan here.) (scroll down to "a musical montage") tickets are...well, i don't even know if there will be tickets. maybe just an offering taken up. but it's at the memorial auditorium on april 21 at 7:00pm. come if you are in the area!!!

my point is that they are having lots of concerts around this area lately. march 31, they will be at lee university in cleveland, tennessee. april 1, they will be at covenant college high atop lookout mountain in chattanooga. april 2, they will be at berry college in rome georgia - the temporary home of my fabulous fiance.
can you tell that i've learned how to include links in my posts?!!!!!!!!!

beautiful merchandise

i broke down. i finally bought some gauchos. i was in target yesterday looking at some shoes that one of my bridesmaids recommended as the bridesmaid shoe (seen here) and remembered that i had a gift certificate from christmas that i hadn't used. browsing through the clothes, i found the pants and tried them on. it's love people. true love. have you FELT these things??!! good GRIEF!!! talk about soft and comfortable. this is a picture of the target ones, so i guess they're the ones i have. but i do NOT wear those shoes with them. gross. the high today is in the mid 40s...oh my GOSH i almost wore them anyway...i'm telling you. you need to get some. immediately.

in other news, heart to heart cereal is just the best. laurie cook introduced me to it and i'm addicted. i like it dry. i like it with milk. i like it as a snack. for breakfast. it's crunchy, has just the right amount of sweetness, AND it has little hearts strewn about amongst the little cheerio-looking pieces. it's awesome. go get some. immediately.

that's all for now. i'll stop commanding you to buy things. happy friday!

nothing else

man oh man. i'm tired of looking at the cake with the daisies on it. so what can i post about? hmm...

i highly recommend finding a job at a school. when a body is used to breaks, it's nice to keep it going in that pattern. i mean, we go to school from the time we're 4 or 5 - sometimes earlier! - and stop going to school at least 20 years later, sometimes longer, and we expect to just stop having summer break, spring break, winter break, fall break, presidents' day break, groundhog day break, etc...MAN! it's ludicrous! (ooh, what a great word...) working at a school is the best. last friday through yesterday i didn't have to sit at this darn computer because we were, indeed, on spring break. and until tuesday i can wear jeans - or equally comfortable clothes - since the boys (i work at an all-boys school) aren't back in school until tuedsay. AND the hours are shorter - 8:30 to 3:30. it is the BEST! free parking, free lunch, lots of breaks, funny people, interesting scenarios - i have the greatest job in the world.

speaking of interesting scenarios, we regularly receive online inquiries and online applications from our website. today we received one from a boy named "JESUS" - his dad put his first name in all caps... - and, when asked what arts the boy is interested in, he responded, to quote him, "Non my son has nothing hes been a drug adicted litle puck his whole life." i like the spelling errors. he went on to explain that he had been arrested several times for auto theft, drug possession, and various other crazy crimes. oh, and he was born in 1985. yeah. like a 21 year old is applying for the 9th grade. and it says his brothers and sisters were born in 1971, 1967, and 1951. this is the second prank application we've received. the first one was from "Billy S Joel". all the phone numbers and addresses were totally not where they said they were (totally), and the hospital where they said the mom worked does not exist, so we knew that was fake, much to our dismay. how cool would it be to have billy joel attend our school!!! but this one from JESUS...everything seems legitimate....good grief! maybe it's for real!!!! AAHH!!! a day in the life of boarding admissions...

ps - aren't you proud of me for not talking about the wedding??!?!!?! DOH! i just did...

more cakes

of course i like the simplicity...but i really like the daisies too...i hadn't thought of daisies...hmm...they come in rust colored, don't they?

i can't seem to find anything that i like with FOUR teirs...only three. but here's one that's really simple. i like it simple. i think the flowers are fake though - we must have real flowers!!!

here we go - this is closer...

look! i like it!!! well, i mean, with my color flowers on top, but i mean the polka dots - they're great!

oh wow - i LOVE this!!! i mean, i don't really like how tall each layer is, and how much of a gap there is in the size...but i love the simplicity of it...

i don't know...not this exactly, but i kind of like the idea of getting the cake person to make squiggly green lines of icing and then sticking real flowers at the ends of know?!

centerpieces, ceremony, reception

we talked about incorporating slices of fruit somehow. i really like the way it looks down there...

something like this would be in the church - maybe two on each side? certainly not this color scheme, but i love how the large arrangment doesn't look like something that goes on top of a know?

the lights in the dining hall don't dim...melissa suggested having candles and keeping the lights off completely. what do you think?

okay now we're getting into reception stuff. I LOVE THIS! but not with roses...or maybe with roses...hmm...i really think it would work with the vases we got...

or this could work too. maybe with the rust colored ones?

this is just adorable. i've been wanting to see something that's simple! all bouquets and centerpieces tend to be SO GIANT, but i love this simple little accent.

flowers times three

(note: these posts about flowers are mostly for my mom to look case you wonder why i'm posting are allowed to vote, whoever is reading this...)

not this color at all, but i really like the idea of putting all the bouquets together in a row like that.

flower choices

i can't help it!!! i STILL love hydrangeas!!! i wonder if they would look bad with this new dress.....

i don't know what it is, but i love it! i like the messiness of it and the simplicity of it...

now that the dresses have changed (see?) the flowers must change. rustish colored flowers will probably look the best. everyone vote!

simple, long stems, probably ribbon tied around it...

again simple, different color...

not this big, but these colors....

carrie elizabeth rollwagen has officially been alive for 9,857 days. two days ago was her 9,855 anniversary of being alive, aka, her big awesome birthday. carrie has been noted for such awesome things as starting her own business, writing a novel, and just being plain awesome, despite the fact that this insightful quote is not accompanied by a photo. this one will have to do.

other accomplishments by miss rollwagen include being a bridesmaid in my upcoming wedding (that's not her, but the dress she will wear), creating, displaying, and maintaining the world's largest and most butt-kicking quote wall in the history of the world, having an entire television show based on her life, and being just plain cute. (see below)

if i had access to the facebook at work (it's blocked...grrr....) i would be able to link you to her amazingly creative profile, and you would see that she has the longest list of friends in the history of the world...oh okay fine. her only friend is me. but that's just because miss rollwagen is involved in far more important and awesome things than playing a child's game of seeing how many friends she can gain.

in other news, miss jennifer crabb also had an anniversary on monday celebrating the same number of days living on this earth. i have no pictures of her, and i don't think this is her, nor this, and again, if i had access to the facebook, i would be able to show you her innermost thoughts and activities. alas.

three cheers for the college roommates with the same birthday! hip hip - HOORAY!!!

slamming brakes, amazing grace, sore muscles

my life almost changed this morning. i came so close to having a wreck that i could taste it. please refer to the diagram.

it started out with grandpa pulling out with absolutely no room in either direction. i could understand if there was room for him one way and he just missed looking the other way, but from both directions, he didn't have room. the worst part about it was that the other way (other than me) was a school bus. people say that wrecks go in slow motion. i've been in 3 before, and i can definitely say they do go in slow motion.

gramps had his wife in the car with him, and he realized what he had done immediately after pulling out into the line of traffic. he decided to do a u-turn about 20 feet in front of me - i was going about 40 mph on one of the busiest roads in town. i have never slammed on my brakes harder than i did this morning. (and i think i might have skidded and made that crazy screeching sound...) when it was all said and done, i thought for sure that the car behind me was going to careen into my trunk, but he managed to get stopped too. please refer to diagram 2.

i came so close to hitting them that i could literally see the whites of his wife's terrified eyes. he pulled forward and i pulled in behind him. i got out with my whole body shaking terribly and asked if they were both okay. everyone was okay, and i said "praise the Lord!" hopefully he was doing the same.

i got back on the road, shook for a few minutes, cried for a little while, and prayed a lot. thank God for good brakes. thank God for saving me from a would-have-been BAD wreck. it probably would have hurt grandma pretty badly - i would have t-boned them and would have gotten her on the dot. it would have stressed me out beyond what i could have handled right now with everything going on. it would have sucked energy and money away from me that i can't spare right now! OH! thank you LORD!!!!

in other news, i played ultimate frisbee yesterday in 80 degree weather. it was the most physically active i have been in years, and EVERY SINGLE MUSCLE in my body is sore today. oh man. it feels so good...i mean, the soreness feels bad, but it feels good to have workout out so hard and have so much fun doing it!!! i really hope it becomes a weekly thing. i could use it!

creative title

well apparently people do read this blog. that's so weird! i got emails, comments, phone calls, letters in the mail, people stopping by, all saying they read my blog! okay so maybe only the first two are true. but still. so hey there. how's it going today?

i ordered a skirt from jcrew overnight hoping it would do with a nice top. it came today. it's a skirt. i'm going to have to see it on with a top to really decide. i don't think it's what we're going to do though. a dress from ann taylor loft might be what we go with. it's simple and really cute. i think it would look good on everyone...i think.

in other news, i thought of yancy while going to work this morning. this car pulled out in front of me - he didn't cut me off...just got in front of me - as i was approaching the beginning of the mountain road. i thought "that's fine. go ahead little car." then the van behind him pulled up to the stop sign and stopped. never in a million years would i have thought that he would have gone in front of me. there's no way there was room for him! but he did. he gunned it and zipped in front of me, leaving me with my mouth gaping in disbelief. then he proceded to POKE the entire way down the mountain. poke meaning SLOW POKE. i don't understand. if you're going to drive like "I MUST GET IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!!!" don't you think you should go AT LEAST the speed limit? grr....i tried not to tailgate him. i really did...but i couldn't just ride my brakes the whole time! good grief people!!!

the end of the world

what do you do when you realize that a decision you've made crashed and burns? start over!! *sigh* the stupid bridesmaids dresses are ugly. i think i always knew it. i just didn't want to admit it. i just wanted the decision to be made and brush my hands off and not worry about it anymore. the place where they come from's sizing is all wrong, so it's frustrating (according to their sizing chart, i should wear a 10, but a 6 swallowed me alive....) so we're starting over. i hope i still have 8 bridesmaids by the time this is over. i know they're starting to get ticked at me for changing my mind all the time. they all seem relieved though...i don't think any of them liked that's at least good. except now i'm facing the same problem of everything being way too expensive. the one i want...oh. weep. look at it!!! it's so pretty! but it's too freaking much. $225. good GRIEF! i even called jcrew to see if they would give me a discount for ordering so many. nope. if i just had 3 bridesmaids i would be able to pay half of it or something, but not with 8!!!

so i'm going shopping today. jjill, ann taylor, coldwater creek....surely someone will have something. what if we went with a skirt and top? last resort is davids bridal. they have one that's not horribly horrible. the blue it comes in is way too dark though...i would have to do with pale green...why am i rambling about this? no one reads this, and even if they do, i'm sure they don't care...

*sigh* filing. i hate filing. that's why i haven't done it since november. literally.

exploding dog dot com

exploding dog dot com. i love it! the deal is that people send in words or phrases to the guy and he does drawings of his interpretation of them. some of the pictures are a little shady...scary even. but stuff like this is just brilliant.
can you guess what it's called? if you think you know, post a reply. if you're right, you'll get a prize. a prize!!! how will you receive the prize? i don't know. i'm just rambling to create space between the two pictures, really...

this one too. it's awesome! it's called "he did it"...can't you just hear them saying in disbelief "HE DID IT!"

i like to imagine what the people who send in the phrases think he'll draw...sometimes they're very bizarre.

who would have imagined this would be for "i like being here"...

brilliant i tell you! brilliant!!!

it's amazing to me how easy it is for me to get stuck in a rut of myself-ness. things i've been wanting to change about me are my sleeping habits - i really want to go to bed early and wake up early, but have gotten in the stupid habit of going to bed late and waking up at the last minute in the morning. i really want to eat healthier. i eat healthy enough to say i eat healthy, but i take in way too much sugar - desserts and unnecessary snacks and the like. i find myself incapable of denying my taste buds the quick, lacking gratification of a burst of flavor while sacrificing concern for what my body really needs.

to prevent rambling, i will get to the point. last night, sugar was freely available to me in the form of strawberry shortcake...mmm...and i didn't eat any. it was the first time in so long that i have said no, and it felt SO good! eating sugar is not a sin, or even bad. but i was SO full from dinner and i would have usually just eaten it just to give my tastebuds something. plus i really want to see if i feel differently after a while of not eating refined sugar. just as a little experiment. i feel like last night was a first step in for a lot of things.

this morning, i almost had another anxiety episode. i woke up but didn't open my eyes and started having the panick-y feeling in my chest. i remembered the words of the counselor i'm seeing to "breathe deeply", so i did. and rather than building and building and turning into a full blown early morning panic attack, it faded. i opened my eyes and it was 5 minutes before my alarm was supposed to go off. GLORIA! usually it's 3 or 4 in the morning when that happens, AND i've really been wanting to get up early to spend time in God's word, but wind up laying there like a slug out of habit. not this morning. i think God gave me a bit of anxiety just to get my lazy butt out of bed and teach me about love. (my daily devotional was about love - 1 john 4:7-26. so i'm pretty excited!!! like, really excited. i think i'm finally getting out of this stupid RUT i've been in!!!!

yeah. that prevented rambling. good job lyndsay!

in other news, i remembered today. go check it out. some are disturbing. some are fabulous!

sleepy eyes and letters

i feel as though i should update this thing even though no one really cares about what's going on in the land of lyndsay. maybe i'm just procrastinating doing work...hmm...

for some reason i thought it was going to be warm today, so when i walked to my car in the FREEZING wind this morning wearing a sundress and light sweater and sandals, i thought the day would perform an amazing feat of warming up 20 degrees as the day progressed. after a quick call to the weather hotline and a remarkable maneuver in nina my altima, i went back upstairs to change into more clothes since the high today is only 61. brrrr....

in other news, i have officially lost 3 of my 4 water bottles. all within a week's time. how does that happen? *sigh*

in other news, there are 88 days left until chris and i get married. good grief. decmber 9th was 88 days ago. and if i recall correctly, that was the day that i was in charge of our visitors' day. wow! that was 88 days ago?! no way!! that was yesterday!!! come on time...FLY!

this past weekend i was at berry to visit christopher and his friends. friday night we went camping in the FREAKING cold weather. well, i guess it was only freaking cold since we were sleeping on the ground with no tents. when i got up in the morning there was frost all over everything. yeah...brr. i couldn't feel my toes. but they're still there. then saturday night we watched kirby dance. talk about beautiful!!! she and daniel are engaged to be married on july 7 of this year. hooray!!! there we are last year at formal, none of us knowing we would all be engaged at this time. well, maybe chris knew. he's been plotting for a while. that sneaky man...

my eyes are sleepy so i must go drink some of my morning reviver tea that christopher brought me from england. it's loose leaf so i feel awesome while i'm drinking it with my little tea ball. and today we must work on letters to send to people. oh boy! letters!

flowers, photos, videos, receptions

holy smokes. you know, i always knew that there was someone out there who didn't have to charge $1000 for flowers. fresh market!!! the lady there really knows her stuff and she's done weddings before and she's CHEAP! she's not reasonable, she's not affordable, she's CHEAP!!! this is not an example of her stuff, but she works with hydrangeas (what i really, really want but have been scared to use since they are so unpredictable with wilting) and knows how to make them not wilt.

the bridesmaids will be white with a little bit of greenery,

and i will be blue. oh. i'm so excited!!!!

and the crazy part about hydrangeas is that you only need one or two to make it look full. that blue one up there only has 3 stems of hydrangeas. amazing. the guys will probably wear little pieces of hydrangeas with some ivy or something.

WOO! it's crazy how this thing is falling into place. God is so good to not only give me the opportunity to spend the rest of my life with the perfect guy for me, but he's allowing us to be able to do it my counsin's husband's sister is going to do the photography, and her version of "affordable" is also mine! and she takes pictures for a living - just not weddings right now...she's done weddings before - so she knows what she's doing!!!!!!

and we think one of our friends is going to do the video for super cheap. we really don't want anything fancy with transitions and music and menus and stuff. we just want a video of stuff. just a plain old home video. we love them!!! and that's what he does!!!

exclamation points!!!!

and the RECEPTION is turning out to be amazing. it's in the dining hall at mccallie - the school where i work - which is a super nice college-looking dining hall that's only 4 years old with wood pillars everywhere and windows all along one whole wall with a huge terrace to go out on that overlooks the city...and the FOOD! the regular everyday food that i eat for lunch everyday is always amazingly good. not amazingly good for a high school cafeteria. it's actually amazingly good. and the people in charge are really creative and smart and fun to be around and CHEAP!!!! halleluia!!!!
